Alto presents a 2026 digital remaster of the Very Best of St John’s College Choir Cambridge, a collection of 19 choral favourites recorded in the College Chapel in June 1996 under director Christopher Robinson.

St John’s College and its choir were founded in 1511, and over the centuries it has built a long and worldwide reputation for musical excellence, having made over 100 recordings with a comprehensive repertoire stretching from the 15th century to the present day.

The Very Best of St John’s College Choir Cambridge ranges widely across four centuries of sacred repertoire, opening with Haydn’s dramatic Insanae et vanae curae and taking in Fauré’s youthful, contemplative Cantique de Jean Racine, Mozart’s serene Ave verum corpus, Bruckner’s radiant Locus iste, Rachmaninov’s Hymn of the Cherubim, and Duruflé’s lyrical Pie Jesu, among many other favourites.
