Musical Concepts is pleased to announce the first release drawing on the extensive Musical Heritage Society archives. “MHS”, as it was known among collectors, carved out a niche as an independent pioneer in mail order music and the regular release of period instrument recordings, including many made especially for the label.
The first release is a landmark of “historically informed performance”: the last sixteen piano trios by Joseph Haydn performed by violinist Eduard Melkus, cellist Elisabeth Vogt, and Huguette Dreyfus playing a period fortepiano. The set included several world premiere recordings, and several of the trio finales incorporate a pianoforte pedal “extension” that imitates the Turkish percussion that was popular during the classical era.
Newly remastered by Urlicht AudioVisual, this release returns to the catalogue in high-definition transfers for download and streaming, along with complete original liner notes through those services that support .pdf.
