Pianist Sviatoslav Richter is one of the greatest pianists in history. He exploded on the international circuit in 1960 following a sensational tour of the United States – but was already well-known in the Soviet Union as a recitalist.
Between 1994 and 2006, American independent CD label Parnassus released “Richter in the 1950s”, a series that documented live performances given mostly in Moscow.
This digital release, the fourth compilation drawn from these releases places the focus on twentieth century repertoire, including music by two composers with whom Richter worked directly, Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich – now available for the first time at-mid-price!
