Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring; Petrushka

More Info

Igor Stravinsky was already a popular and controversial firebrand of the orchestra avant-garde brfore the premiere of Le Sacre du Printemps. His score for Diaghilev’s ballet Petrushka was alive with rhythm, colorful orchestration, and modernist music drawing on the sounds of Russian folk music and much fearless dissonance. Le Sacre set off a literal riot, pushing traditional harmony beyond its limits with bitonality, and completely throwing formal conventions to the wind.

Alto is pleased to return Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos’s thrilling recording of both revolutionary Stravinsky scores to the international catalogue.
