Hungarian pianist Lili Kraus is a legendary figure among 20th century pianists. Though she is most well known as an exponent of classical and early romantic piano repertoire, as a student her teachers included Béla Bartók, a monumental figure in 20th century music. Kraus made her last recordings for Vanguard Classics, including this collection of Bartók miniatures based on folk and dance music of Eastern Europe – authoritative, idiomatic performances tradition brimming with rhythmic vibrancy that perpetuate Bartók’s influential legacy.
