Originally released in 1972, the Waverly Consort’s program of selections from “Cantigas de Santa Maria”, the 12th century anthology assembled by King Alfonso X “El Sabio”, was the first recording of these Medieval melodies in realizations for medieval singers and instrumental ensemble. The recording brought The Waverly Consort, American pioneers in the performance of European early music, to international attention.
