Marina Tarasova is one of the world’s leading cellists, and her approach to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach is both unabashedly romantic and highly original. The present program, in which she is joined by pianist Evgeny Starodubtsev, combines Bach’s gamba sonatas with a variety of transcriptions for cello and piano.
“I was inspired to play these works in arrangements for cello and piano! And I wanted listeners to enjoy the beautiful sounds of the cello ‘singing’. Life is not meaningless if there is Bach in it ! But, organ or harpsichord pieces cannot sing like a cello. These transcriptions are extraordinarily heartfelt.”
