Gioacchino Rossini’s Sonatas for Strings are among his earliest surviving works – precocious works that reveal the young composer’s gifts of melody and wit. Originally composed for a handful of players, the works are also suited for string orchestra, and receive virtuosic, lighthearted readings under the direction of Eduard Serov. This is charming, highly listenable music with immediate appeal, now in High Resolution audio.
