Ysaÿe: Complete Sonatas for Solo Violin (with Bach Violin Sonata No. 2)
Complete solo compositions by “The King of the Violin”
Legendary virtuoso violinist Ruggiero Ricci – one of the greatest violinists of the century, whose genius was recognized while he was still a young child – performs all six of Eugène Ysaÿe‘s Sonatas for Solo Violin (Op. 27), each dedicated to a prominent violinist and written in the manner of each. (In order: Joseph Szigeti, Jacques Thibaud, George Enesco, Fritz Kreisler, Mathieu Crickboom, and Manuel Quiroga.) These solo violin works are perhaps Ysaÿe’s most well-known, and they are among the repertoire which made Ricci famous (along with his Paganini: see ALC 1077 here). Also included is Johann Sebastian Bach‘s Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Minor (BWV 1003).
