Marcelo Kayath

In his short career, Brazilian Marcelo Kayath was one of the brightest young stars in classical guitar. A world renowned artist at the early age of 16, he won the Segovia Prize at the International Villa Lobos competition. In 1984 he became the only guitarist ever to win first prize in both the Toronto and Paris International Guitar Competitions.  Musical Concepts is proud to present three albums by this guitar master.  (Click the images below for more information, including where to find our products!)

“Kayath is a player of utmost refinement, fluent technique, and clear tone… Warmly recommendable.” (Gramophone)

A stunning collection of works by the finest names in South American classical guitar, including Heitor Villa-Lobos, Manuel Ponce, and Antonio Lauro. Marcelo Kayath‘s interpretation of these classics is surpassed by none, and his performance of preludes by his Brazilian countryman Villa-Lobos is of special note.

“Kayath’s inspirational accounts of the Villa-Lobos Preludes can stand comparison with the finest on record… He plays everything here with consummate technical ease and the most appealing spontaneity.” (Penguin Guide, 3 Stars)

This album is a stunning example of why Classical guitar is often also known as Spanish guitar, whose national culture, both in Europe and through Latin America, has produced many of the remarkably popular tunes that are on this album.

This collection of thirteen magnificent tracks highlights several all-time classic Spanish songs by the finest composers – including Francisco Tárrega, Isaac Albéniz, and Federico Moreno Tórroba. (Currently available as mp3 download only.)
